It’s officially Christmas decorating season! I’ve decorated my fair share of trees over the years, and have learned some tricks along the way that make decorating SO much easier. These tips will also help you achieve a full and beautiful tree every single time. If you’ve already decorated your tree for the season, no worries! You can tuck these tips away for next year. To make your tree REALLY pop, here are six Christmas tree decorating hacks you need to know. Ready to fluff??? Let’s go!
Wear Gloves

Fluffing trees is super hard on your hands, so wear gloves to protect them. Some artificial trees come with a pair of sateen gloves, but they aren’t the only kind you can use. I find that dish gloves work perfectly for me. They give you good grip and control over the branches and can be thrown away once they tear. So easy, and they’ll save your manicure!
Add Garland

Have a less than full tree? Here’s one of my favorite Christmas tree decorating hacks. Once you’ve fluffed the branches, tuck a pre lit garland around your Christmas tree. Not only will you get instant fullness, you’ll also have more lights for that magical twinkle. This trick works wonders for less expensive, sparse Christmas trees.
Use Both Sides Of Your Ribbon

Ribbon can be expensive, so make yours do double duty. Choose a ribbon that has two different sides for a varied look. This ribbon is glittery on one side and velvet on the other. I alternated which side I showed along the garland for interest and texture.

This year, I’m decorating my tree in cranberry, mauve, and gold. You can find these exact ribbons here and here. This cranberry ribbon is velvet on one side and satin on the other. I used both sides for a different sheen.

Wire Ornaments
For a cleaner, more professional look, wire ornaments tightly to the branches of your Christmas tree – especially plain bulbs. This give you a tidy look, and also allows you to nestle bulbs into the tree to give depth and fullness.

Here’s a tree with the ornaments hanging loosely from the branches. It’s a bit messy and the bulbs don’t fall quite as nicely.

And here it is with the ornaments wired tightly to the branches. Much nicer!

Cluster Ornaments
For a big punch, group clusters of ornaments together. Simply wire strands of them together and then attach it to your tree branches. It’s so easy, but makes a huge difference.

Sometimes, clusters of ornaments are all you need! This tree has a modern, asymmetrical look by simply wiring ornaments together. Gorgeous!

I loved this tree so much, I decided to do an entire forest of them!

Picks Are Your Best Friend
The secret to getting a realllllly full tree is adding picks. Lots of picks. They are such an important component to your decor, and are a staple that can be reused year after year(even when you change your tree’s look). Here’s a Christmas tree decorating tip: to give them more ‘oomph’, try wiring several together before adding them to the tree. Vary the depth and direction you place them for tons of texture and pizzaz.

Simplify Your Christmas Tree Decorating
I hope these Christmas tree decorating hacks make it easier for you to create a full, dazzling display this year. Enjoy time with your loved ones, and soak in all the season has to offer. Happy Nesting!
