Fall is officially here, and that means it’s time to start thinking about adding some warmer touches to your home. Today I’ll be showing you how to make this rustic Indian Corn swag that’s perfect for indoors or out. This is a quick project that can easily be completed in less than half an hour, so it’s a perfect mid-week craft.

Swag Supplies

Here are the supplies you’ll need for this Indian Corn swag. Feel free to customize to your liking by adding additional textures.

Indian Corn swag supplies
  • Indian Corn(3 per swag)
  • Ribbon(similar)
  • Floral Wire
  • Wire cutters or scissors
  • Pheasant feathers(turkey feathers would look beautiful too)

Step 1: Wire Your Corn

Gather your Indian Corn together by the husks, and wire them together. You may need to wrap your wire around each ear individually first, and then wire them all together. Trim off excess husks that are going ‘rogue’ to create a somewhat-tamed rustic look.

Step 2: Add Feathers or Picks

Once your corn is wired together, add your feathers or floral picks into the wire by twisting it around the stems. My feathers were on long picks, so I was able to push them through and then bend the straight end to secure the feathers into the swag. Add any additional picks until the swag is as full as you’d like.

Step 3: Add Ribbon

For my Indian Corn swag, I chose a gorgeous peridot ribbon. One side is crushed velvet, and the other is satin. Whenever possible, I buy double-sided ribbon so I have several options for different looks. For this project, I used the satin side to give my swag a rustic/glam look.

Pro Tip: Choose a double-sided ribbon for a luxe look.

Tie your ribbon around the top of the corn(where the ear meets the husks) BACKWARDS with the knot it the back. If you prefer the ribbon in the front, a bow would also look lovely.

Ribbon tied so the knot is on the back of the swag

Once your ribbon is knotted, create a ‘loop’ of floral wire and secure to your ribbon on the back side. This will serve as the swag’s hanger.

And that’s it! Such a simple project. This Indian Corn swag can be used in so many places. Here are some of the ways I’m using mine:

Outdoors, you can add your Indian Corn swag to porch lanterns, or, hang it from a ship’s bell, as I’ve done here on our workshop.
