Once the weather starts to get a bit chilly, we practically live on our screened-in porch. So today, I’ll show you how I’ve zhushed it up for fall in a simple, but impactful way. Let the Fall Porch Tour begin!
The Door Arch
So, I guess I never took a ‘real’ before picture of the arch my husband made for me. He built a simple cedar structure to serve as a support for my decorating. Here’s the only picture I can find of it. Not great, but it gives you an idea of what it looks like undecorated.
The Elements
I saw bundles of corn stalks at my local nursery, and knew I wanted to use them as a jumping off point for my fall porch. Yes, they are messy, but the amazing texture they add is so worth it. I began by wiring the bundles to my arch.
To give the corn stalks a tad more interest, I added some of my Indian corn swags to the corners for a touch of color.
Mums and Pumpkins, Oh My!
No fall porch is complete without mums and pumpkins. I chose these gorgeous “Pink Frenzy” mums from the nursery and popped them into bushel baskets for a rustic look.
The pumpkins I chose are a fun mix of colors and textures. I’ve had them well over a month in 90+ degree weather, and they are holding up perfectly. You can see how I’ve preserved them here.
Balance + Height
I do love symmetry, so I balanced my fall porch display almost exactly on each side. On the right side I did add a fabulous finial I found at Goodwill a few months ago for some added structure.
To balance the height between the top of my arch and my hanging baskets, I added simple stacked pumpkin topiaries in my ferns.
The Finished Fall Door Arch
Here’s how the arch looked once I was finished. It not only looks great here, but I can see it from our living room as well.
Fall Porch Tabletop Decor
I’m keeping things really simple this year, but I did want to carry on the corn theme. These corn husk pilgrims belonged to my grandmother, and I think they’re perfect on my dad’s childhood dresser.
My moss wall art is still going strong. You can learn how I made it here.
This gives you a better idea of where the dresser is in relation to the porch door.
Get Decorating!
I hope you enjoyed a peek at our fall screened-in porch this year. No matter how large your space, I encourage you to add your own seasonal touch to it. Cut branches from your yard, thrift, or make decorations for a truly one-of-a-kind look. Happy Nesting!
