Sometimes, inspiration comes from the most ordinary places. For me, it was my weekly produce shopping. Early fall is such a glorious time for produce – you get the last of the summer harvest combined with the first cool weather fruits and vegetables of the season. My grocery haul inspired me to create a Thanksgiving centerpiece that celebrates the best of the harvest….with a modern twist. Here’s my harvest Thanksgiving tablescape and modern cornucopia.

Modern Cornucopia Vessel
Many traditional cornucopias are a woven horn-shaped basket that produce spills out of. While these are beautiful, they are really one-sided. I knew I wanted to create the look of a bountiful harvest that was beautiful from every angle at the table. After shopping around my home, I knew this oblong bowl would be the perfect vessel for my harvest Thanksgiving table. Here are lots of beautiful options with quick shipping.

Harvest Thanksgiving Place Settings
I am completely in love with Johnson Brother’s Harvest pattern. The platter is gorgeous, and serves as decoration for my fall coffee bar vignette. To modernize the look just a tad, I opted to mix in some leopard print salad plates. Mixing patterns automatically gives the place setting a fresh and interesting look, without being too over the top.

Bamboo placemats add a lovely textural foundation for the place settings. The flatware is vintage Dirilyte from my mom that is perfect for a warm harvest Thanksgiving look.

Modern Cornucopia
My harvest cornucopia gets a modern twist, not just from the vessel, but also from the types of produce I chose. Acorn squash and a white pumpkin anchor the arrangement. I filled in around them with produce inspired from my plates – plums, pears, pomegranates, and grapes. The last of the season’s heirloom tomatoes add a moody tone, which contrasts beautifully against green grapes. Brussel Sprouts are fantastic filler, and bright lemons and fresh green lettuce add a pop of bold color. To add texture and aroma, I cut Thyme, Oregano, and Rosemary from my garden. Bolted Basil stems add a floral element and the most delightful scent.

Thanksgiving Chandelier
To elevate my harvest Thanksgiving table, I decided to decorate my chandelier for extra drama. I simply used the same dyed Eucalyptus branches from my Fall tree. The branches add wonderful texture, and keeps the eye moving around the entire space. I love the bold orange pop against my plate wall. You could easily forage beautiful stems from around your area for a similar look.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope you feel inspired to elevate ordinary produce into something beautiful this Thanksgiving. So gather your loved ones to celebrate the bounty of the harvest with love and laughter. Happy Creating!
