A big part of having a home you love is injecting your unique personality and style into your decor. I love decorating in unexpected places, and try to tuck special pieces wherever I can. Gallery walls are one of my favorite ways to do this. They pack such a punch and add tons of interest and charm into a space. The best part? There are no hard and fast rules. Simply collect pieces you love and hang them together for a special look.

What Is A Gallery Wall?

Put simply, a gallery wall is a collection of objects hung together on a wall. They can be in large or small groupings, and aren’t limited to just art. You can find a way to hang just about anything with the right tools. I often use a combination of plate hangers, disks, and tabs. I’ve even used thumb tacks for very small pieces! There is really no right or wrong way to create a gallery wall. They can be large, small, uniform, or organic and work in just about any space. Here’s some ideas you can incorporate a gallery wall into your home:

Large Gallery Walls

If you have enough space, a large gallery wall adds a ton of impact. Don’t be afraid to take it to the ceiling(or the floor), either! This draws your eye up and makes a striking impact in your room. This blue and white plate wall is my absolute favorite focalpoint in our home. It really makes a statement and can grow to ‘walk’ all the way around the doorway.

Small Gallery Walls

Even if you only have a tiny space, a few pieces of art grouped together are such a sweet surprise. I’ve tucked small pieces of art behind doors and on half walls for an unexpected treat. If you have open shelves, consider hanging art on the wall at the back. This gives them tons of depth and interest.

Outdoor Gallery Walls

Gallery walls don’t have to be indoors! Consider adding art groupings to your porch, garage, or potting shed. A collection of antique garden tools adds charm to a potting shed wall. Ceramic art adds dimension to a porch. I used some metal and rattan art pieces on our old front porch to make a welcoming entry.

Gallery Walls To Hide Eyesores

A gallery wall is a great way to distract from an eyesore. This can be a tv, thermostat, light switch, or air vent. I added our college diplomas and artwork to my husband’s study around his tv and safe.

Unusual Gallery Walls

You don’t have to just use artwork to create a beautiful gallery wall. Trophies, souveniers, or even antlers make beautiful displays. Combine different shaped objects for a unique look that fits your home’s personality.

Add A Mirror

A gallery wall around a mirror looks beautiful and bounces light around really well. Consider adding a mirror to your grouping for added dimension.

Collect What You LOVE

Adding meaningful items are a big part of loving your home. Special displays have such value for the memories they hold and the emotions they evoke. I bet if you take a look through your closets and attic, you’ll find wonderful things you could display that will delight you, your family, and friends for years to come. Happy Nesting!
