Lately I’ve been craving simplicity in my home, so I decided not to use any kitschy Easter bunnies or fake eggs in my spring decor this year. Gasp! Not that I don’t love them, I do! But I really didn’t want to go buy more ‘stuff’ to store and keep up with. Anyone else ever feel this way? So instead, I’ve chosen to use what I have for my living room decor this year – with one exception: a beautiful large painting my mom just made me. After seeing all the vibrant colors, I knew it would be my jumping off point for this year’s spring living room.

Spring Living Room Decor: The Fireplace
Because our fireplace is tucked in a corner, it really isn’t the focalpoint in our living room. My mom, who also happens to be the world’s best thrifter, found us a new mantel that is much beefier than our original one. I’m debating painting it to match the rest of our trim(SW Shiitake) so that it recedes a bit. Maybe I’ll get around to it before too long.
Here’s our old mantel:

And now:

MUCH bigger, but it feels a bit ‘heavy’ to me.
Of course I added dried cedar stumps to the firebox – it adds just a bit of texture and color during the off season.
Colorful Spring Decor
Since my home is predominantly blue and green, it was easy to add pops of pink to really brighten things up. If you’ve seen my Instagram lately(I’d love for you to follow along!), I’ve shared some of the pretties that have come out of my garden lately.

By adding small pops of unified color to my spring living room decor, things look bright and cheerful without feeling too crazy.

Coffee Table Decor
We have two matching oak and wrought iron coffee tables in our living room, so I simply styled them with books and green and pink accessories. Pro tip: I get so many large coffee table books from the discard bin at the library. Many have beautiful cloth covers. Just toss the dust jacket and stack ’em up!

Library Table
I have a really hard time getting a good shot of this table because it’s under a wall of windows. But, it is a beautiful focalpoint and the first thing you see when you walk into our living room. The table is actually a vintage bamboo dining table with a gorgeous burled top.

The Credenza and Reading Corner
Since there is alot going on around the room, I decided to keep the decor minimal on our credenza and side tables. Sometimes your eyes just need a break!

The Writing Desk
This piece belonged to my dad’s aunt and is such a sweet little spot. I created a simple plate wall above it years ago and still love it. And no, I don’t polish silver – ha!

Entertainment Center
We’ve had this large piece for 20 years now and it’s made every move with our family. I keep my collection of Chinoiserie ginger jars on top for a pretty display. The armchairs swivel, so they can still be used to watch tv. Don’t be afraid to put furniture in front of your television – it doesn’t have to be your living room’s focalpoint!

Colorful Spring Living Room
Keeping our spring living room decor simple this year has been a breath of fresh air for me. I just love the lightness it brings and reminds me that home is a place for rest. How are you decorating for spring this year? I’d love to hear! Happy Nesting!
